Patrick is an Australian who took a year off from work to travel and to, in his own words, “Discover what’s important in life.” I met him on a boat in the Indian Ocean

Many people in this world have advanced judgmental comments when it comes to America. It's actually quite miserable to witness unprincipled statements about a nation that has so many diversities. I had an overheated conversation with an old friend about American foreign politics once. He had clear statements that America only invades countries for their own benefit, and he had this rage against the ruling American president. When USA plays soccer many people around the world smiles and sometimes actually laugh of them, thinking; They can only run with a football in their arms.... I think such preconceived comments comes because the U.S have such a short a history in soccer.
The Typhoon Haiyan is hitting the Philippines hard. Thousands of people have died. People are without, homes, water, food and the infrastructure is down. It’s a terrible disaster for hundred thousands of people – maybe millions, no one really knows the status yet. According to Red Cross, Americans was (once again) the first ones to take action to help the people there. I wonder sometimes where my country is in situations like this. We have a lot of money, but our help seems to come very late compared to the Americans…. Dear America
I have talked and asked about you for years now. I know there has been to many preconceived meanings and thoughts about you. I have therefore decided to find out what people in this world is thinking about you. I don't want to talk politics, but sometimes I have to. I want to know what about USA there is to like and to dislike without having a political debate. For that reason I will talk to people around the world to find my answers. These random meanings will end up in a comming book. Follow my journey around the world while I'm looking for real true answers about Americans and not the alreay defined cliches that we already have heard about you. We can still see signs from the Tsunami who hit Thailands wetstside big, back in 2004. But the people in Thailand are just magnificent and friendly. I had to, of course, ask them about USA, and I recieved some really fantastic answers that you can read in my new book. |
